Hearing Block 8: Key drivers of antisemitism & radicalisation

The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion will hold Hearing Block 8 in Sydney from 5 to 14 August 2026.

This hearing block will examine the key drivers of antisemitism in Australia, including religious, far right and other ideologically-motivated extremism and radicalisation, including:

• The means by which individuals become radicalised or are otherwise driven towards antisemitic views, including the role of the online and digital environments and the influence of preachers and authority figures who incite hate, and the responses of law enforcement to those issues. 
• The responses of governments to combatting radicalisation, including best practice approaches to early intervention, disengagement and deradicalisation for those who are at risk of, or are engaging in extremist behaviour and the efficacy of existing government and community-based countering violent extremism programs. 

"Hearing Block 8 will examine the causes, influences and pathways that contribute to antisemitism and radicalisation in Australia, in line with the Royal Commission’s Terms of Reference,” Commissioner Virginia Bell AC SC said.

“We will also explore the effectiveness of current government, law enforcement and community responses, with a focus on prevention, early intervention and deradicalisation.”
