Australian Government extends reporting deadline to 18 December 2026

The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion has been granted an extension by the Australian Government to deliver its final report by Friday 18 December 2026.

Commissioner Virginia Bell AC SC requested the short extension to ensure that the delivery of the Final Report, which was due by 14 December 2026, did not overshadow the first anniversary of the Bondi Chanukah attack.

“The 14^th of December will be a solemn occasion marked by memorials. I am aware of concern within the Jewish community that delivery of the report on the anniversary would be a distraction. I welcome this short extension,” said Commissioner Bell.

The Royal Commission, established on 9 January 2026, sat for a total of 62 days of hearings in Sydney and Melbourne with 348 witnesses providing evidence. Further, the Royal Commission received more than 20,000 submissions. The Royal Commission is now preparing the Final Report.
