Hearing Block 5, Melbourne and Sydney

The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion will remain in Melbourne for Hearing Block 5 from Monday 20 July 2026 to Friday 24 July 2026. Hearing Block 5 will continue on Monday 27 July 2026 in Sydney.

Scope

Hearing Block 5 will focus on security arrangements for the Jewish community and will examine:

  • The security needs of, and existing security arrangements for, Jewish institutions, events and leaders.
  • The role served by the Jewish community security groups (CSGs) in Australia and equivalent organisations worldwide.
  • Coordination between law enforcement agencies and CSGs in protecting the Jewish community.
  • Government funding provided for protective security.
  • Police data collection processes relevant to assessing risk to the Jewish community.
  • The role of emergency preparedness and resilience training, by police and communities, in addressing security risk.

Location

Hearing Block 5 will be held at 11 Exhibition Street, Melbourne. The continuation of Hearing Block 5 in Sydney will be held at 83 Clarence Street, Sydney. There is limited public seating at both venues.

Some evidence, including from witnesses covering operationally sensitive matters, may be heard in closed session.

Applications for leave to appear

The Royal Commission invites persons who consider they have a direct and substantial interest in the scope of this hearing block to make an application for leave to appear by no later than 4:00pm (AEST) on Friday 10 July 2026.
